The Project

The whole project took place in the middle of icy Lapland. Unlike in "7 vs. Wild 2", the participant teams in "Arctic Warrior" do not fight for survival in pleasant temperatures on an island or on the beach (the second season of 7vsWild was filmed on the Isla de San José in the Gulf of Panama) but in the snow in arctic conditions. For this, all candidates needed good stamina and, of course, appropriate equipment and clothing. 

Finnish Lapland is the northernmost region of the country and stretches majestically over an area of nearly 100,000 square kilometers. The region lies between the 66th and 70th parallels of latitude and thus also (for the most part) north of the Arctic Circle. With a population density of less than two inhabitants per square kilometer, this landscape is also by far the most sparsely populated. Ideal conditions for the "Arctic Warrior" adventure.

In February, the climate in Lapland is typically deep winter. Temperatures in this month often drop to icy lows, regularly reaching -15 degrees Celsius and at times even scraping the -30 degree Celsius mark.

The Equipment

Therefore, it is extremely important to be equipped accordingly and to carry professional clothing. Predestined for this are our products of the ECIG series, (ECIG= Extreme Cold Insulation Garments) which are designed and constructed for temperatures beyond -30°C.
These polar-proven products are the life insurance of the participants and protect against freezing cold, icy winds and wet cold snow. Freedom of movement also played an important role in the tasks during the "Artic Warrior".

The slightly wider cut of the ECIG Jacket and pants is ideal for being agile and mobile for the tasks ahead - while providing perfect insulation against the merciless cold. The material combination of water- and wind-repellent Gore-Windstopper ePTFE with our G-LOFT® insulation in the ECIG series literally cried out for their use. 
 

G-LOFT® - ReThink Insulation

Info: The G-LOFT® Insulation Fiber is the result of decades of development and combines the advantages of down and synthetic fiber. It is warm, light and breathable, even in wet and cold conditions. Due to its "memory effect", the fiber always returns to its original, warming form after intensive stress. This ensures optimal thermal insulation and climate regulation in different environments.

All participants of the Arctic Warrior were provided by Carinthia with, among other things, a set of ECIG 4.0 Jacket and ECIG 4.0 Trousers from Carinthia. In keeping with the Arctic Circle, the choice fell on the version in Multicam Alpine - the perfect combination for these areas.

The ECIG 4.0 Jacket is a polar-proven multifunctional jacket for extremely cold temperatures. The thoughtful construction with reduced outer seams leads to better thermal insulation, as potential cold bridges are minimized. Durability is also further increased by reducing friction and stress at the seams. The water-repellent outer material is another plus in winter environments. A 3-way adjustable hood and integrated snow guard are of course also part of the ECIG 4.0 jacket's features. A warming inner collar can be easily zipped in if required and increases comfort in icy cold and windy conditions.

The 2 large padded outer pockets offer plenty of storage space and through the practical thermal fleece lining the possibility to rest and warm up cold hands during short breaks. Features such as the 2-way front zipper with wind protection and chin placket are just as natural as a one-hand adjustable drawstring to adjust the waist of the jacket.
The G-LOFT® insulation is rated at 220g/m² on the body and 145g/m² on the arms for freezing temperatures and harsh weather conditions, and is highly efficiently insulated.

The cold weather trousers, ECIG 4.0 also have a water-repellent outer fabric with Gore Windstopper® and the construction and cut is optimized for good fit and optimal performance in cold temperatures. A high waistband protects the sensitive pelvic area from drafts and cold. For practical donning and doffing, even when wearing winter boots, there is a full-length zipper on the side.

 

The Show

The "Arctic Warrior 2023" was a survival show on YouTube, in which a mixture of 8 professionals and 8 rookies faced various challenges in the harsh cold of Finland. The show was produced by Otto "Bulletproof" Karasch, who is also one of the participants. He is a former paratrooper and the winner of the 2nd season "7 vs. Wild". 

The participating buddy teams consisted of specialists with military training and personalities from the social media world. The goal: to survive 100 hours, i.e. five days, in the unforgiving Arctic wilderness and earn points in the process. In the course of the competition, various additional challenges had to be mastered, which were evaluated accordingly. The triumphant team was the one that scored the most points and crossed the finish line first.
