With our new MIG 5.0 Jacket, we present the next generation of our Medium Insulation Garment series. Developed for demanding scenarios and outdoor adventures, it combines our advanced G-LOFT® insulation technology, protection against wind and weather, and outstanding functionality.

We wanted to find out how the MIG 5.0 Jacket performs beyond the Innovation Lab. In this article, we take a closer look at the new features it offers and what makes it a reliable companion for a wide range of operational and outdoor scenarios.

MIG 5.0 Jacket: Ready for Any Challenge

The MIG 5.0 Jacket is an insulated jacket designed for highly dynamic operations involving tactical gear. The innovative Side Access System, featuring full-length side zippers, allows for quick access to equipment carried on the belt—without having to open the jacket at the front. Combined with moisture-resistant G-LOFT® insulation, thermal performance is maintained even when wet.

Overview of the Features:

Full-length side-access zippers: The side zippers extend from the hem to just below the armpit, allowing for quick access and versatile use. This also enables quick access to gear or holsters.

New YKK 2-way front zipper: This durable 2-way zipper features a built-in wind flap and a chin guard. It combines smooth operation with a sturdy construction.

Optimized Mesh Interior Pockets: Redesigned mesh interior pockets offer practical storage space and quick access. By eliminating the zipper, you now have faster and easier access, as well as more space to dry or store items such as gloves or other gear.

Additional Napoleon inner pocket: The left Napoleon inner pocket with a zipper offers additional, securely closable storage space.

Modified sleeve cuff: The redesigned sleeve cuff has been adjusted for optimized functionality.

Hem adjustment with drawstring: The hem can be individually adjusted using an internal drawstring—conveniently accessible from the side pocket area.

With the launch of our new MIG 5.0 Jacket, we are not only presenting a new product, but also our philosophy. Behind every development lie high-quality materials, well-thought-out designs and a clear focus on the intended use. This makes it all the more exciting for us not only to unveil an enhanced product, but also to experience it in action.

Together with our brand ambassador Otto Bulletproof, we tested the new MIG 5.0 Jacket under real-world conditions. The focus was not just on technical specifications, but on practical use in the great outdoors.
From the moment we first put it on right through to several hours of movement, we were able to experience first-hand how the individual components work together. The new full-length side-access zip was particularly noticeable. This allows direct access to the equipment underneath and provides the option of additional ventilation as required. This is a particular advantage during use, as the temperature fluctuates with the alternation between periods of rest and activity.

It was equally interesting to experience the material’s properties in action. Whilst conditions changed repeatedly throughout the day, the jacket demonstrated precisely the versatility that we placed particular emphasis on during its development. Features that seem self-evident on the spec sheet often only reveal their true strength when used in real-world conditions.

For us, it is precisely these moments that are particularly valuable. They showcase not only the product itself, but also the high standards we at CARINTHIA® set for our equipment. A jacket should not rely solely on technical specifications to impress. What matters most is how it feels in use and how it supports the wearer in different situations.

1. What is the MIG 5.0 Jacket intended for?

The new MIG 5.0 Jacket has been designed primarily for outdoor activities and changeable weather conditions. It combines functionality, comfort and protection in one.

2. Why has a side zip now been added?

The new zips on the sides allow the wearer to quickly and easily access their equipment underneath the jacket. Whether it’s a holster, plate carrier or mid-layer: the full-length side-access zip provides quick and easy access to the equipment underneath. Furthermore, the zip can also be opened from the armpit downwards, providing additional ventilation during high-intensity activity or when temperatures rise.

3. What improvements have been made to the mesh inner pockets?

The new inner pockets have deliberately been designed without zips and have been enlarged. This ensures quick access and more storage space.
